From heartbreak to hope, this journey reminds us of the incredible strength of the human spirit.
Manisha Jagan Mongan, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 35, went on to save and transform the lives of 11 individuals through her organ and tissue donations, according to the tissue and organ donation unit at Hospital Sungai Buloh.
Her inspiring journey was recently honoured during a Selangor donor appreciation ceremony, where organ donors and their families were recognised for giving others a second chance at life.
Following her sudden passing, Manisha’s kidneys and liver were successfully transplanted into three patients who had spent years on waiting lists. Her corneas and bone tissues were also preserved to help future recipients regain sight and mobility.

According to Dr Natasha Noh, head of the hospital’s tissue and organ donation unit, public awareness surrounding organ donation increased significantly after Manisha’s story became widely shared.
“The response from Malaysians was unexpected. Not only did Manisha help 11 recipients directly, but her story also inspired thousands of others to register as organ donors,” she shared.
Manisha’s father, P Jagan Mongan, who received a certificate of appreciation from the Selangor Health Department on May 7, said the family found comfort in knowing that her final wish had brought hope to so many lives.
“It was painful to lose her at such a young age, but knowing her organs have helped others eases our pain greatly. We had no second thoughts because we knew this was what she would have wanted,” he said.
He described Manisha as someone who always helped others during her lifetime, making the family’s decision a reflection of the compassionate person she was.
Dr Natasha also encouraged more Malaysians to register as organ donors through the MySejahtera app, noting that family consent remains one of the biggest challenges despite increasing awareness.
Even in her absence, Manisha’s legacy continues to live on, not only through the lives she saved, but through the thousands she inspired to choose hope, kindness and humanity.
