RJ Balaji reveals why he apologised to Sivakarthikeyan?
During a recent interview with Galatta Plus, RJ Balaji spoke about a Deepavali special mock award show he had performed years ago as part of a satire on film award functions. One segment referenced an emotional moment involving Sivakarthikeyan speaking about his late father on stage.
Balaji admitted that although he did not initially realise the impact of the parody, he later understood it had hurt many viewers.
“At that time, I didn’t think it was wrong. But after watching it on television, I felt it was insensitive. I immediately called Sivakarthikeyan and apologised,” he shared, adding that there was never any intention to hurt anyone.
The actor-filmmaker’s honesty and willingness to admit his mistake have now become a major talking point among Kollywood audiences.
RJ Balaji about Atlee
RJ Balaji also opened up about how filmmaker Atlee Kumar inspired him over the years. Interestingly, Balaji revealed that he had once trolled Atlee’s Raja Rani during his radio jockey days, but later grew to deeply admire the director’s confidence and determination.
“Even when people criticised him, the belief Atlee had in himself was surprising,” Balaji said during the interview.
He further praised Atlee for trusting fresh talent and highlighted how the director introduced cinematographer G.K. Vishnu in a major Vijay film, calling it a bold and courageous decision.
RJ Balaji pointed out that despite years of criticism and trolling, Atlee continued to answer through blockbuster success. From directing films like Theri and Mersal with Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar to delivering the ₹1000 crore blockbuster Jawan with Shah Rukh Khan, Atlee’s rise has been one of the most remarkable success stories in Indian cinema.
Balaji also expressed excitement over Atlee’s upcoming project Rakka starring Allu Arjun, which has already generated massive expectations among fans.
Apart from the interview revelations, RJ Balaji also addressed recreating Suriya’s iconic “watermelon scene” in Karuppu. He admitted he initially worried audiences might misunderstand the tribute, but eventually decided to present it in a fresh and entertaining way suited to the film’s tone.
With Karuppu gearing up for release, RJ Balaji’s candid reflections, self-awareness and appreciation for fellow artistes have struck a chord with many cinema fans across the Kollywood industry.
